SIRA VideoGuard Integration & Support in Dubai

Connectivity, integration and ongoing support.

AMSS supports VideoGuard connectivity and CCTV integration for applicable SIRA-regulated premises, including system assessment, configuration, testing and ongoing technical support.

VideoGuard is part of SIRA’s security-monitoring framework and does not apply to every site. Where it is required, we prepare and integrate the CCTV system, starting with an assessment of what is already installed.

The basics

What is VideoGuard?

SIRA describes Video Guard as a monitoring system for CCTV surveillance systems, covering their performance and faults so that the systems keep working.

In practice it connects a site’s CCTV and recording system to the approved monitoring environment, so the system’s status and faults can be followed. It works alongside the cameras rather than replacing them.

That makes it different from installing cameras: the CCTV system also has to be compatible, correctly configured and reliably connected, which is the part we help with.

Applicability

When is VideoGuard required?

VideoGuard may be required for certain premises and activities under applicable SIRA requirements. Whether it applies depends on the premises type, the business activity, SIRA’s preventive-system requirements and current authority rules.

SIRA’s Video Guard page associates the service with activity categories that include hotels, shopping centres, supermarkets, general warehouses, gas stations, money exchange and real estate, and SIRA’s published requirements for many regulated activities include installing and connecting an approved service that monitors the health of the security system. In practice, certain hospitality, residential, industrial, retail and accommodation categories may be subject to VideoGuard requirements, depending on the applicable SIRA rules.

VideoGuard is one possible part of a wider SIRA compliance project. For the complete approval, installation, audit and certification process, see our SIRA Approval & Compliance Services.

How it works

How VideoGuard works with CCTV systems

At a high level, and depending on the site and the VideoGuard arrangement that applies to it.

  1. 01

    CCTV cameras & recording

The cameras and the recorder (NVR or DVR) remain the site’s CCTV system; VideoGuard works alongside them.

  2. 02

    Video Guard device

SIRA’s Video Guard page lists Video Guard devices by the number of ports they provide, so the size of the system matters.

  3. 03

    Network & connectivity

A reliable connection between the site’s system and the monitoring environment, planned with the site network.

  4. 04

    Health & fault monitoring

The system’s performance and faults are followed, so problems can be investigated and fixed.

  5. 05

    Power & readiness

SIRA’s requirements include UPS power for recording devices, and a well-maintained system avoids repeated faults.

  6. 06

    Site coordination

Changes to cameras, recorders or the network are coordinated so the connection keeps working.

What we deliver

VideoGuard integration services

Within AMSS’s licensed and technical scope, we prepare and integrate the site’s CCTV system and coordinate with the relevant parties. We do not operate SIRA’s monitoring platform.

  1. 01

    Existing system assessment

Cameras, recorder, network and power reviewed against what the connection needs. More on our CCTV & video surveillance work.

  2. 02

    Network & connectivity review

The site network and internet connection checked for a stable, reliable link.

  3. 03

    NVR / DVR compatibility review

The recorder’s make, model and firmware checked, with upgrades identified where needed.

  4. 04

    System configuration

Recorder, camera and network settings configured for the connection.

  5. 05

    Integration work

The technical changes needed within our scope, including recorder, network and structured cabling work.

  6. 06

    Testing & verification

The connection and the system’s status tested before handover.

  7. 07

    Troubleshooting & corrections

Technical faults and any observations raised investigated and rectified within our scope.

  8. 08

    Documentation & coordination

Records of the work, and coordination with the VideoGuard service provider and other parties where required.

Existing systems

Existing CCTV system assessment

Already have CCTV? An existing system may not need replacing to support VideoGuard. We assess:

  • 01The cameras
  • 02The recorder (NVR or DVR)
  • 03The network
  • 04Connectivity
  • 05Power and infrastructure
  • 06Compatibility
  • 07Required upgrades
  • 08The current system condition
The process

Our VideoGuard integration process

Six stages. We prepare the system and support the applicable process, coordinating with the relevant parties where required.

  1. 01Requirement review

We confirm the premises, the activity and the SIRA requirements that apply.

  2. 02Site & system assessment

The CCTV, recording, network and connectivity are reviewed on site.

  3. 03Gap identification

Integration or upgrade requirements are identified and set out.

  4. 04Configuration & integration

The required technical changes are made within our scope.

  5. 05Testing & rectification

Functionality is tested and technical issues are resolved.

  6. 06Handover & support

Documentation at handover, with ongoing technical assistance available.

Aftercare

VideoGuard support & maintenance

A connected system has to stay connected. We support the site’s CCTV, recorder and network, and coordinate with the VideoGuard service provider where an issue sits on their side.

Maintenance can be covered under an Annual Maintenance Contract. See our CCTV maintenance and support.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

01What is SIRA VideoGuard?

A monitoring system that SIRA describes as covering CCTV surveillance systems’ performance and faults, so the systems keep working. It works alongside a site’s CCTV rather than replacing it.

02Is VideoGuard mandatory for every business in Dubai?

No. VideoGuard may be required for certain premises and activities under applicable SIRA requirements. Whether it applies depends on the premises type, the business activity and current SIRA rules.

03Which premises may require VideoGuard?

SIRA’s Video Guard page associates the service with categories including hotels, shopping centres, supermarkets, general warehouses, gas stations, money exchange and real estate. The requirement for a specific site should be checked against the current rules.

04Can an existing CCTV system be connected to VideoGuard?

Often, if the recorder, network and configuration are compatible. We assess the existing system first: compatibility is confirmed, not assumed.

05Does VideoGuard require a new CCTV system?

Not necessarily. Some existing systems need only configuration, network or recorder changes; others need upgrades or replacement. The assessment shows which.

06What happens if the current system is not compatible?

We identify what has to change, such as the recorder, its firmware, the network or the power arrangements, and propose the upgrades needed before connection.

07Can AMSS maintain and troubleshoot a VideoGuard-connected system?

Yes, for the site’s CCTV, recorder and network, within our scope. Where an issue sits with the VideoGuard service or device provider, we coordinate with them.

08How do I know whether my premises requires VideoGuard?

It depends on your activity and premises under the applicable SIRA requirements. Tell us both and we will check what currently applies before recommending any work.
